Deryck Foster was an accomplished marine artist who was born in Bournemouth in 1924 and moved to Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight in 1960 where he painted local yachting scenes. He attended the Central School of Arts and Crafts after spending the war as an aircraft fitter in the RAF where he repaired and tested engines for Lancaster bombers. He was elected to the Royal Society of Marine Artists in 1964 and undertook commissions including one for Ted Heath’s yacht Morning Cloud and another of Bloodhound, the racing yacht of the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh.
